Ouessant x Shetland

Registration and Breed Pedigree

These lambs will be registered as a percentage Ouessant with the North American Ouessant Association. Because they carry a verified pedigree from this lineage, they offer an opportunity for buyers interested in documented heritage genetics or ongoing breed upbreeding programs.

Expected Mature Size and Lineage

The size of these lambs reflects their unique genetic background, which combines the modest frame of the Shetland with the exceptionally small stature of the Ouessant. The dams are purebred Shetland ewes weighing between 60 and 100 pounds. The sire, Pascal, is a 7/8 Ouessant cross who weighs 45 pounds.

The Ouessant breed holds the distinction of being the smallest sheep breed in the world. Because these lambs carry a high percentage of Ouessant genetics, they are expected to mature into compact, easily managed sheep. They will stay well under the size of standard commercial breeds, making them highly efficient for smaller pastures and rotational grazing.

Flock Health and Castration Guidelines

All lambs have completed their initial health protocols, having been fully vaccinated and boosted with CD&T.

Due to the smaller frame of these breeds, we recommend delaying castration until five months of age if you plan to keep them as wethers. Allowing the urinary tract to develop fully before the procedure helps prevent urinary calculi or kidney stones later in life. We advise having this procedure performed by a licensed veterinarian.

Herd Management and Companion Pricing

Sheep are herd animals and thrive with companionship. They are healthier and more content when kept with at least one other ram or wether. To support proper flock dynamics, a discount is available when purchasing multiple sheep.
